Raoul van den Brink, a 22-year-old from Bloemendaal, started his music journey in Amsterdam before focusing on DJing. With roots tracing back to Pakistani/Afghan descent, he shares a home with his parents and sister. After two one-year part-time music courses in Utrecht, he found his passion for Techno & House during illegal raves at the end of the corona times. Read our short Q&A with the winner of our talent contest @sendantan.rdm! Q: Can you tell us something about your progression as a DJ? A: ''I've been dj-ing for over a year and in that time my genre and style of playing developed a lot. I started with putting sets and various podcasts on my soundcloud for people but mainly for myself, to be able to listen to your own sound and learn from things that you would have done differently. I started to connect with a rotterdam techno platform called Derailed, they also helped me to gain more experience by playing for their radio show. This resulted in being more confident playing in clubs and venues.'' Q: What are your biggest inspirations? A: ''The thing that inspires me most in the techno scene is all the upcoming artists that i've met and talked to in this short period of time during gigs and radioshows, talking about their perception on music and learning from them gives me joy. Coming from Rotterdam, an event that gives me the most inspiration is Decode by Abstract Division, held mostly in Perron. They always bring the best artists that display my own style/genre. The professional artist that started it for me is Setaoc Mass and his label sk_eleven.'' Q: How does Sinister help you develop your DJ career? A: ''To be able to play in an intimate clubbing experience should be a dream for any dj that just started playing, especially with the boiler room type setting during the 22nd of september. One of the leading acts in the contemporary hardcore techno scene, [KRTM] combines modern industrial hardcore with an oldschool sensibility. A producer with over 10 years experience, and head of outsider techno labels SSSPCR and Madback Records, [KRTM] released his breakthrough debut album on PRSPCT in 2018. Raised by a professional musician, Casper Leenaars quickly developed a feeling and passion for music and rhythm. When he grew older, he discovered that a lot of the music he had been enjoying wasn’t made with instruments he was familiar with, but rather through digital software or analog synthesizers. Together with an interest for computers, he gained passion for electronic music production, exploring different genres and experimenting with sound. The positive energy and shared love for music he found within the techno scene are the reasons he fell in love with the rave culture very quickly. Now, as a DJ, he implements his musical knowledge gained from producing into his performances creating technical, interesting and energetic mixes.
